Video Campaign Encourages Young People to “Pause, Think, Talk” Before Risk Becomes Harm
What if preventing human trafficking and exploitation started before a crisis—and before most people realized there was a risk?
That’s the idea behind It’s Not What It Seems, a prevention-focused awareness campaign developed by the Greater Denton County (TX) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. Designed for young people ages 12–22 and the parents, caregivers, and trusted adults who support them, the video campaign encourages audiences to pause, think, and recognize how everyday interactions, relationships, and digital behaviors can quietly increase vulnerability.
Unlike traditional awareness efforts that often rely on fear, statistics, or worst-case scenarios, It’s Not What It Seems uses relatable, real-world situations to help young people build awareness as a practical life skill. Through short videos featuring youth and trusted adult voices, the campaign promotes reflection rather than alarm and conversation rather than confrontation.
